Beyond the enlightenment project

Nicholas Capaldi

pp. 443-469

Abstract

Analytic metaphysics as informed by the Enlightenment Project is misguided because:There is a pre-conceptual domain that is not itself conceptualizable; hence there is not and cannot be a successful theory about when the meaning of a concept has been extended as opposed to when the concept has been changed; a theoretical account is only successful when it meets previously agreed upon norms; what these norms are can only be explicated and never theorized about.
